Rare Chinese Gold Coin Certified by NGC
2016-04-18 Mon
An extremely rare Chinese (1917) Yunnan $10 gold coin was recently submitted to NGC. 5 Yuan and10 Yuan gold coins were struck to pay the military troops in Yunnan during the National Protection War. One side of these coins were blank and the other side bore a simple design of Chinese characters that translate to the denomination of the coins.NGC recently certified and graded an example of the $5 and the $10 coins. They first needed genuine examples for comparison, which they could not for a long time. Image references that they found were also not that solid.
They contacted Shanghai Museum which hosted some authentic examples of the coins. It was then that the coin was assigned a grade of MS 61 by NGC.
Since NGC is one of the most trusted grading agencies, they have to be extremely sure about every coin’s authenticity.
